Urban Environmental Research to Showcase First Responder Tool at California Fire, EMS & Disaster (CFEDWest) Conference & Expo
Electronic tool used by Nevada's first responders presented as model for other communities at CFEDWest being held May 10 - 14, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs, Calif.
Las Vegas, NV, May 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Urban Environmental Research (UER), in coordination with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (Metro) as well as local, state, and federal agencies, developed a state-of-the-art tool for Nevada’s first responders that will enhance their ability to quickly and effectively respond to any threat or emergency situation. UER will be exhibiting this tool at the California Fire, EMS & Disaster (CFEDWest) Conference & Expo being held May 10 - 14, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs, Calif.
Entitled the Critical Infrastructure Protection System (CIPS), the electronic tool provides first responders throughout Nevada with vital infrastructure information, such as floor plans, locations of hazardous materials and updated 360-degree video of important local facilities, including government buildings, schools, major tourist attractions and transportation centers.
“This tool gives Nevada’s first responders detailed information and video of all kinds of facilities before they go inside so they are better prepared in the unlikely event of a threat or emergency,” said Sheila Conway, managing partner of UER. “At CFEDWest, we will be showing how this technology can benefit any municipality, enabling police officers, fire department personnel, and other first responders to work with the same data about a building and coordinate their response.”
CFEDWest Conference & Expo represents the collective energies of California’s response community to develop an educational event that delivers timely and affordable continuing education to first responders and provides an interactive forum for product and service exchange. With a mission of enhancing the delivery of first response, as well as curtailing first responder deaths and injuries, CFEDWest provides relevant continuing education to numerous disciplines, including: law enforcement, fire, EMS, disaster, and public health.
The tool’s facility information is gathered as part of the state of Nevada’s Silver Shield and Critical Infrastructure Protection Programs. UER serves as the support contractor to Metro, which is coordinating the statewide efforts along with leading federal, state and local first responder and emergency management agencies. Under the programs, UER is identifying and cataloguing more than 3,000 government buildings and other critical facilities in Nevada to provide vulnerability assessments and emergency response information.
