School Websites Aren't Kids' Stuff: St. Paul's Episcopal School Wins International Youth Website Award
Even K-8 school websites are expected to deliver the goods for media-savvy parents and students. The website for Oakland-based St. Paul's Episcopal School competed against youth websites from Planned Parenthood, HP, and the US Department of Health and Human Services, and picked up a silver medal.
Oakland, CA, May 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In a sign of the increasing sophistication of school websites, the St. Paul’s Episcopal School website captured a silver medal in the 2010 Summit Creative Awards, an international competition that recognizes the work of small-to-midsize designers.
The newly designed St. Paul’s site features photographs of students, videos of teachers in the classroom, student-created digital stories, news stories, a Media Gallery, sports highlights, and customized information for parents about their child’s homework and schedule.
“We live in a media-rich environment, and expectations of what a website delivers have risen, even for non-profit websites,” said St. Paul’s Communications Manager Jane Adams. “Parents, teachers, and students expect the kind of customized, multimedia information they’ve become used to on commercial sites like Amazon.”
WhippleHill Communications of Bedford, NH, designed the St. Paul’s website, which was funded by an anonymous donor. The Summit Creative Awards contest, run by Summit International Awards, drew on a panel of judges that included the president of Ogilvy 2B Interactive, a Regional Creative Director at Saatchi&Saatchi, and the creative directors and heads of ad agencies in Tokyo, Kuwait, and Dubai.
St. Paul’s Episcopal School is an independent K-8 school rooted in service learning. Students perform 7,000 hours of service every year to seniors, toddlers, developmental disabled adults, homeless families, Alzheimer’s patients and the water and birds at the Lake Merritt wildlife refuge, the oldest wildlife refuge In North America.
