Greenspoon Marder Attorney Receives President’s Call to Service Award
Fort Lauderdale, FL, May 12, 2010 --(PR.com)-- William Berger, senior partner, co-chair of the litigation department and managing partner of the West Palm Beach offices at Greenspoon Marder, P.A., was presented with the President’s Call to Service Award, the highest honor awarded by the office of the President of the United States for extensive service to the community.
The award recognizes and honors individuals who set a standard for service through community involvement and volunteer work, with a minimum of 4,000 hours of volunteer service over a lifetime. Berger, who has committed 7,450 volunteer hours to various charities and civic organizations, was presented with the award by Aileen M. Pruitt, Treasurer and Board Member of the Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism, as he celebrated his 10th year with Home Safe and its annual “Clarence Clemons Classic” fundraising event to benefit neglected and abused children.
“It’s about the kids,” said Berger. “You don’t realize how much you take for granted, until you meet a child who was never loved and who never knew how to love. It permeates and poisons the rest of that child’s life and, if we allow it, his or her future and, ultimately, ours too.”
In addition to his work with Home Safe, Berger is also a supporter of many other charitable organizations including Here’s Help, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, March of Dimes, The Bone Marrow Foundation, and American Cancer Society.
As for his civic involvement, Berger was appointed Chairman for the International Economic Forum of the Americas: Palm Beach Strategic Forum. He is a founding member of the Quebec-Floride Chamber of Commerce, serves on the Board of Directors of the Economic Council of the Palm Beaches and as a Trustee of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, which recognized him as “Business Leader of the Year” in May of 2009. He is a member of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches, and the North Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Berger serves on the Advisory Board of ICABA, a multi-media organization fostering opportunities for black professionals and entrepreneurs. In addition, Governor Charlie Crist appointed Berger as a Trustee of Palm Beach Community College and member of the Judicial Nominating Committee for the 4th District Court of Appeals.
It is community-minded people like Berger that inspired The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, which was established in 2003 to recognize the contributions of volunteers and to encourage more people to serve. The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard – measured by the number of hours of service over a 12-month period or cumulative hours over the course of a lifetime.
