FAAC-NJ Thanks NJ's Gov. Christie for Food Allergy Awareness Week Proclamation..... More Federal Research Funding Needed to Find a Cure
Nutley, NJ, May 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- For one South Jersey mom, having Gov. Chris Christie proclaim this week as Food Allergy Awareness Week (FAAW) will translate into greater attention, and hopefully, more funding, into finding a cure for her multiple food allergic three-year old son.
Dante has life-threatening allergies to egg, milk, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, seeds, and legumes, said his mother, Suzanne Harrison, a Marlton resident.
Having FAAW proclaimed by Gov. Christie is “a building block and a stepping stone to getting more things done in the state and in the country,” said Harrison, who is also the chairperson of the Philadelphia Walk for Food Allergy Sept. 12 at Cooper River Park in Camden.
Twelve million Americans, including 3 million children, have food allergies, but the federal government spends only $26 million on research, far less than other important diseases.
On behalf of little Dante and the nearly 60,000 school children with food allergies, the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Coalition of NJ, a statewide advocacy group, thanks Gov. Chris Christie for proclaiming May 9-15 Food Allergy Awareness Week.
Harrison asked her local support group, Food Allergy Connections in Voorhees, NJ, to ask the governor make the official proclamation. Food Allergy Connections is advised by Dr. Richard A. Wachs of Garden State Allergy & Asthma Center.
