Local Interior Designer Receives Los Angeles Children’s Charity Angel Award
Pasadena, CA, May 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Local interior designer was honored and presented with Hillsides Angel Award during Child Abuse Prevention Month. Hillsides, a foster care charity serving children and families living in Los Angeles County, including Pasadena, presented the award to Judith Kenyon Burness during its Annual Angel Awards Ceremony. The children’s charity also honored additional donors and volunteers who have exceeded the charity’s expectations and contributed so much of their resources to ensure that the mission of creating safe places continues.
“The thing about angels is that they intervene when we least expect and when we need it the most. This is true for all the recipients today. We couldn’t do it without you, literally,” said Joseph M. Costa, Hillsides chief executive officer. “The challenges the children and families we serve face are daunting! The resources are always scarce. As a result, the care that we provide is never enough so what we do must always be the best. For your generous support with your time, talent, and treasure, we thank you.”
Simply gifted with a sense of style and uniquely distinctive are ways to describe Burness. As an interior designer for over thirty years, Burness has put her talent to use while being a volunteer at Hillsides serving on the board of directors, executive board, Annual Benefit Committee as well as chairing the Annual Benefit. She served on the interior design committee overseeing the interior design aesthetics of all facilities, both off and on Hillsides main campus.
Her interest in volunteering was “to be a small part of bettering the lives of the young children” Hillsides serves. Burness worked on seven interior design projects: Girls’ Satellite home, Boys’ Satellite home, Sierra Cottage, Family Cottage, living room, dining room, and Redwoods Cottage.
“Being part of Hillsides has allowed me to provide the children with pleasing surroundings,” said Burness. “I believe if children learn to appreciate and respect their environment this is a helpful stepping stone for them to respect others and hopefully create a meaningful life for themselves.”
“Because of your commitment and care, in spite of the challenges, we are confident that Hillsides will continue to be that safe place for children and families that allows them to be restored to a full life filled with hope to realize all their dreams,” Costa told award recipients.
Held at the Old Mill in San Marino, the Annual Angel Awards Ceremony was sponsored by Jack Tahanian Insurance Company, Jeanette Uebele, Menyea’s Décor, Antiques and Objects D’Art and Lincoln Avenue Nursery, Inc. To learn more about Hillsides, visit www.Hillsides.org.
