But because Pedro has autism, sometimes he gets very excited and emotional about certain things and it’s difficult for him to calm down. Sometimes Pedro’s parents don’t like to take him out to places like the supermarket where there are lots of people. Soon, Pedro’s class is going on a field trip to the aquarium and his parents are worried that Pedro will get too excited in such a public place. In the days leading up to the field trip, Pedro’s teacher shows the class photographs of the aquarium and pictures of what they will see during their visit. The day finally arrives when Pedro and the other children visit the aquarium. During the visit, Pedro has one episode but luckily his teacher is able to calm him down by singing to him and patting his back. When they arrive back at school, Pedro’s parents are very happy to hear that he had a successful outing and realize that with small steps they can take Pedro on special trips too.
