Bluegrass Family Health Encourages Early Implementation of Extending Health Insurance Coverage for Young Adults

Lexington, KY, May 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Effective June 1, 2010 Bluegrass Family Health will give each employer group the option of extending health insurance coverage up to age 26 for dependents currently enrolled. Those young adults, whose coverage with Bluegrass Family Health would cease on or after June 1, 2010 due to reaching the limiting age of their health benefit plan, will be allowed to remain covered on their parents’ health insurance policy.

The required effective date of this provision under federal healthcare reform is for plan years beginning on or after September 23, 2010. However, due to many adult children expected to lose eligibility status under their parents’ health insurance policy between June 1, 2010 and the beginning of their parents’ next plan year, Bluegrass Family Health has chosen to begin early implementation of this provision. The option for extending dependent coverage to age 26 will be given to all Bluegrass Family Health employer groups currently enrolled in their fully insured small and large group markets. In addition, Bluegrass Family Health also encourages all of their self-funded plans to adopt this provision early in order to protect the adult dependents of their employees who may lose coverage during this time as well.
