NAACP to Host Town Hall Meeting on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for Southern California Small Businesses and the Unemployed

NAACP Riverside Branch to host a Town Hall meeting discussing the American Recovery and Reinvestment for Southern California Small Businesses and the Unemployed Thursday May 20, 2010.

Riverside, CA, May 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- A resurgence from the economic downturn is on the horizon and some economists have even officially announced the ending of the recession. President Obama’s Stimulus Plan is a $787 billion bill — The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — that was approved by Congress in February 2009. Despite much resistance from Republicans (none voted for the measure in the House, and only three did in the Senate) a consensus among analysts show that this package is working. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Riverside Branch is hosting a Town Hall meeting to discuss this act. This meeting will take place this Thursday, May 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. at 4491 Kansas Ave. in Riverside, Calif.

Guest speakers include a panel of City officials and community leaders: - 64th District Assemblyman Brian Nestande - Riverside County-Auditor Robert Byrd - Vincent McCoy, executive director of the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center - Rachel Baranick, deputy district director of U.S. Small Business Administration - La Kenya McClough, MPFC, special assistant to Chief Deputy Director of California Recovery Task Force.

These leaders will be discussing how the Federal Stimulus Package is helping the job market. Attendees will also receive updates and information on the latest procurement opportunities from several state agencies, find out emerging opportunities in the green economy, and there will even be an on-site voter registration available.

This town hall meeting is open to the public but seating is limited. Please RSVP to Waudier Rucker-Hughes at 951.324.9603, Mimielle Goulatee at 951.905.9890, or email rivnaacp@gmail.com.

The Town Hall Meeting on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for Southern California Small Businesses and the Unemployed is sponsored by NAACP Riverside Branch, Community Alliance Network, SCLC, SOAR Inc., Inland Cities Black Chamber of Commerce, Riverside Black Chamber of Commerce, and Inland Empire Community Calendar.
