Former Foster Child Gives Away Free Books: For National Foster Care Month
Mt. Vernon, NY, May 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Award winning author, motivational speaker, and successful businesswoman Dr. Cassondra “Cookie” Humphrey kicks off Foster Care Month with the help of Pioneer Streetball Legends.
During May, National Foster Care Month, former And1 members, Main Event and Shane “The Dribbling Machine”, and former Harlem Wizards member/ foster child- Courtney Castro are speaking to and inspiring at-risk youth. The goal of the campaign is twofold: to provide support to community organizations that serve foster children, and to promote foster care awareness. On behalf of “Humphrey House” a nonprofit organization dedicated to educate, empower, and inspire children; Hundreds of copies of her book have already been distributed nationwide to churches, Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs and other non-profits as part of the campaign. Although Humphrey is touring and inspiring others in Korea, she is grateful for her celebrity partnership and their contribution to support such a great cause.
Humphrey’s book, All Cookies ain’t Sweet, traces her journey from a troubled youth in foster care to a life dedicated to serving kids in similar circumstances. Her story shows how even under extreme difficulty, it’s possible to escape tragedy. The powerful message gives hope to millions of Americans who are growing up in the nation’s foster care system.
No doubt the increased attention to foster care during May will benefit the almost half a million children currently in the foster care system, and the uncounted millions who support them. Humphrey and her team will continue to raise awareness long after National Foster Care Month is over.
