Walking Initiative Gets "Start!" with Help of Home-Tech, Customers
American Heart Association National Start! Walking Day Receives “Charity of the Month” Donation.
Fort Myers, FL, May 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The American Heart Association’s National Start! Walking Day initiative got a boost in April from Southwest Florida air-conditioning and appliance sales and service leader Home-Tech and its customers. Home-Tech made a $611 donation to the effort on behalf of customers who purchased new air conditioning systems in April as part of its Charity of the Month program. Since the program’s inception in August 2009, Home-Tech and its customers have given more than $8,600 to local charities located from Sarasota to Naples in addition to the company’s ongoing charitable giving and sponsorship of local charity events.
The American Heart Association also benefits from Home-Tech’s corporate giving efforts. In addition to the donation made to the organization’s Go Red for Women event through the Charity of the Month program, the company stepped up with an additional $16,000 donation. Home-Tech’s Chief Financial Officer, Sonya Sawyer, will co-chair the 2010 event. Home-Tech employees have raised thousands for the charity’s Heart Walk and the company was a major sponsor of this year’s Heart Ball.
“Home-Tech is proud to support a number of American Heart Association initiatives, including Start! Walking Day and we’re equally proud to help our customers do the same” says Home-Tech President and Founder Steve Marino. “The AHA provides so many programs and services to residents in the areas we serve to keep them healthy and living comfortably, much as we aim to do. This is the third time we’ve helped our customers donate to the organization through our Charity of the Month program – the annual Heart Walk and Go Red for Women event were selected charities in August and October of last year, respectively, and netted two of our highest donation amounts.”
Home-Tech’s Charity of the Month program donates a portion of the price of each new air conditioning unit sold to a different charity each month. Donations are made in customers’ names to thank them for their business, instead of sending corporate gifts.
A portion of May’s sales will benefit the CROW Animal Refuge Center on Sanibel Island, Fla. Home-Tech already supports this charity by maintaining its air-conditioning and appliances free of charge, donating approximately 80 hours of service each year.
