Nikhil Dhawan and Renu Razdan Declared Mr. & Miss South Asia 2007 by Hollywood Action Hero Steven Seagal
Hollywood Action Hero Steven Seagal was one of the many highlights at Jinder's 16th Annual pageant Mr./Miss/Mrs. South Asia® 2007 which took place on November 10th on the prestigious ship Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. Sahara One Television presented Mr./Miss/Mrs. South Asia® 2007, the Red Carpet Event for Jagriti Charity (a non-profit organization) will be aired on Sahara One TV.
Long Beach, CA, November 28, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Hollywood Action Hero Steven Seagal was one of the many highlights at Jinder's 16th Annual pageant Mr./Miss/Mrs. South Asia® 2007 which took place on November 10th on the prestigious ship Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.
Sahara One Television presented Mr./Miss/Mrs. South Asia® 2007, the Red Carpet Event for Jagriti Charity (a non-profit organization), in association with Hamilton Brewart of Hamilton Brewart Insurance & Dr. Nirav Savalia of Center for Cosmetic Surgery. The glamorous and exciting pageant will be aired soon on Sahara One Television.
The audience was excited as soon as Steven Seagal was spotted, surrounded by security guards, Seagal was led into the Queen Mary before dinner. Steven Seagal arrived in a long leather jacket and was ushered to his table and a guard stood by him throughout the night.
The show began after a lavish dinner catered by Chakra Cuisine of Beverly Hills. The audience was then treated to a spectacular opening Bollywood dance number by the Bollywood Step Dance Troupe. Jinder K. Chohan, the show's creator and executive producer, then welcomed the audience and greeted Sahara One TV viewers before announcing Steven Seagal to the center stage. Steven Seagal greeted the audience in several Indian dialects, which thrilled the audience. Seagal mentioned he called Jinder and wanted to come and support the Jagriti cause.
Jinder K. Chohan, Executive Producer & Creator of Mr./Miss/Mrs. South Asia® 2007, said, "I was honored and proud to have Steven Seagal incorporated into our whole show. He was true gem to work with as he opened our show with encouraging words, accepted his Lifetime Achievement award graciously and crowned our winners with a smile. Revi Chohan, the show's director, and Miss India California 1997, Tina Patel, emceed the glitzy show with both charm and wit. The first round of competition was traditional wear followed by a talent portion by the beautiful Miss South Asia® 2007 finalists. The last round of the competition was the formal wear for all contestants.
In the Miss South Asia® contest, Renu Razdan, a Kashmiri, 22-year-old Systems Programmer at Intel was crowned Miss South Asia 2007, with Medha Rishi, who earned the title Miss South Asia USA 2007, Shilpa Mamidi won the title of Miss South Asia 2007, Rochelle Kumar was named Miss Teen South Asia, and Jaspreet Jammu was declared Miss South Asia California.
In the Mr. South Asia® contest, Nikhil Dhawan was named Mr. South Asia 2007, with Sudhir Tewari, who was also voted as the People's Choice, received the Mr. South Asia USA 2007 title and Jon Jung, of Filipino descent and an obvious favorite with the audience, was named Mr. South Asia America 2007.
The beautiful and graceful Newlywed Milly Mohiuudin, was crowned Mrs. South Asia® 2007. Milly also was voted Mrs. South Asia 2007 People's Choice, while Farah Majid was named as the Miss South Asia 2007 People's Choice.
Applications for MR./MISS/MRS. SOUTH ASIA® were accepted from all South Asian descents (including those from South East Asia & South West Asia countries). Jinder K. Chohan announced she will be producing MR/MISS/MRS SOUTH ASIA® in India for the world finals, which will be held in Mumbai. Jinder also mentioned, "As an American based company, we are always asked to send a representative for India at the World Final level. It's something that I'm very proud to do, and by going into my 16th year in the pageant industry, it tells me that we have a good, strong reputation around the world. Our organization sent Miss India America 2006, Melanie Kannokada to MISS ASIA in Hong Kong (Oct. 27th, 2006), where she placed on the Top 10, representing India, and we also sent our Mr. India West Coast 2006, Sudhir Tewari to Mr. International in Singapore (Oct. 7th, 2006), who did an excellent job representing India. Priti Mathur, Mrs. India America 2006, will be going to world finals of Mrs Globe 2007 in Palm Springs, CA."
Some of the prizes for the winners included being TV hosts for Sahara One TV, roundtrip tickets to India courtesy CN Travel, a spot at the Mr./Miss/Mrs. South Asia world finals in Mumbai, and mentoring sessions with Supermodel Saira Mohan.
Many celebrities were seen throughout the evening, including: singer and "tabla girl" Tina Sugandh - a One Haven/Sony BMG artist, Actress/Producer Namrata Singh Gujral of 'Americanizing Shelly' w/ Beau Bridges and NBC's ' Passions', Actor & TV Host Dr Reef Karim-he was named one of the "Sexiest Men Alive" by People's magazine, actress and model Dr. Shalini Kapoor Grover, actor Thomas Tevana of Bollywood movie "Bole So Nihaal" with Sunny Deol, actor Subash Chand and actor Manu Narayan of Broadway's 'Bombay Dreams' to name a few.
Steven Seagal was present throughout the night and was seen enjoying the entire show. Midway through the evening, Seagal was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his many years of success in the entertainment world. Steven Seagal is not only a popular Hollywood Action Hero, but he's also an Executive Producer, Director, Writer, Singer and Guitarist. Jinder's 16th Annual 'Spirit Of India' award was given this year to Sahara One Television by Steven Seagal. Mohit Bijlani and Sulekh represented Sahara One Television on stage and received the award. Jinder stated, "Sahara One Television is receiving our 'Spirit Of India' award for keeping the spirit of India alive in America".
Ray Cordova, assistant to the recently elected state controller John Chiang, presented and honored Jagriti founder, Kamlesh Chauhan, with a special certificate for her efforts in empowering South Asian women, senior citizens and youth. The Jagriti organization is committed to fighting domestic violence against South Asian women by raising community awareness and offering survivors information on their legal rights.
The evening ended with an energized celebration dance party – CLUB MUMBAI, featuring New York's DJ Rekha of Basement Bhangra & Bollywood Disco fame.
