Medal Play Golf Tour Enjoys Birdie Fest at Westin Mission Hills
The field took full advantage of perfect scoring conditions to go low for the day.
Rancho Mirage, CA, May 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Medal Play Golf Tour visited the beautiful and challenging Gary Player Signature Course at the Westin Mission Hills Resort on Sunday, May 16th. The weather and the course were in perfect condition for scoring and the field took advantage. In the four events leading up to this one the tour had given up 5 sub par rounds. On this day the field would produce 27 birdies to ensure 7 players would post in red numbers for the day.
The A Flight was led by Shaun Clark and his 6 birdies helping him post a tour record gross 68 net 64. The 6 birdies earned Shaun $153 in skins money alone!
In the B Flight, Julian Hernandez used his fast start and 3 birdies to set a tour net scoring record of 63. Julian is a tour vet with a legitimate tour handicap competing in his 5th event. This was not an incoming index. All runner up Ed Tennison could do is watch with amazement while posting a net 72 along the way.
Alexander Maese broke through in the D Flight with a solid 77 net 71 for his first win on tour. Jack Martin edged out Michael Blumenfeld on the card playoff after both posted net 73’s.
Paul Jurkofsky bounced back from some high tour rounds with a 79 net 65 to edge out Phil Dickens who posted an 84 net 68 to take second. Steady Bob Costa, battling some food poisoning, managed an 85 net 74 to claim 3rd.
Virgil Mink has bounced back and forth from the F Flight to the E Flight, back to the F Flight has established a new home in the E Flight by posting a career best 82 net 66 to spoil a fine effort by Stan Tankersley who came alive with a 90 net 69. Michael Tocchini placed third with a 102 net 74.
