Boston Indie Film from Milk and Cookie Productions Awarded for Healthcare Awareness
Boston Production Receives Merit of Awareness at Los Angeles' "Awareness Film Festival" for Healthcare Awareness
Boston, MA, May 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- This weekend, Boston-produced short film “Skin and Bone” received the "Merit of Awareness" award at the Awareness Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. The festival’s mission is “bringing awareness and opening eyes to some of our world's pressing issues.” In addition, it has recently been awarded a “Certificate of Excellence” from SkyFest Film and Script Festival. The local Boston-made award-winning short spotlights the inner workings of a cardiac catheterization laboratory and focuses on the multicultural nature of medicine and equity in healthcare today. This marks the third festival award for “Skin and Bone.”
“Skin and Bone” filmed in Boston on a $500 budget with an all-volunteer New England cast and crew. It is the work of Boston residents Philip and Lucy Magcalas, who are current medical students.
Rogue Cinema’s Cary Conley calls it "a touching and thought-provoking film about the health care field… raw and emotional as well as tender. This terrific film is... a work of love and a treat for the viewer." Meanwhile, Joanne Ross from Movie Buffs gives the film 3 ½ out of 4 stars, adding, “Skin and Bone offers a more truthful and genuine experience of life for healthcare workers… Without exception, the entire cast delivers well acted yet underplayed performances… Kudos to Magcalas and his talented cast for a fine piece of cinema.”
This new film from independent production company, Milk and Cookie Productions is available on DVD on their website, with a portion of the proceeds to go towards Partners In Health’s relief work in Haiti.
