Discount Cab Prius Fleet the First to Complete Safety Improvements

Glendale, AZ, May 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Discount Cab, the Southwest’s largest taxi company, announced today that it has successfully completed all repair work related to Toyota’s recent accelerator pedal recall.

With the assistance of the mobile recall repair team at Power Toyota, every one of the company’s Toyota Prius taxis accelerator pedals have been remedied in accordance with Toyota’s standards. Discount Cab was the first Prius taxi fleet to complete the modifications.

Each Prius now displays an “Authorized Modification” sticker from Toyota just inside the driver door on the left center I-beam door jam area. A copy of each repair invoice is also available.

“We hadn’t encountered any problems with our cars and we put them through a rigorous safety inspection each month but it’s nice to be able to say that all of the repairs have been certified by Toyota,” said Craig Hughes, CEO and founder of Total Transit, Inc., the parent company of Discount Cab.

This spring, Toyota announced that it would modify the accelerator pedals in all of its 2004-2009 Prius vehicles to ensure that the pedal did not interfere with the car’s driver side floor mat. The floor mats in Discount Cab’s fleet had already been removed as an extra safety precaution.

“Our customers’ safety is of utmost importance to us,” said Jay Crete, corporate fleet manager for Discount Cab, who personally oversaw the Toyota repairs. “We take our business of transporting people very seriously and are pleased to see that Toyota has demonstrated the same commitment.”

Now in its 26th year, Discount Cab continues to thrive and expand. Craig Hughes, CEO and founder of Total Transit, Inc., the parent company of Discount Cab, was named the 2009 recipient of the “Taxicab Large Fleet Operator of the Year” award by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA), a non-profit association that includes more than 1,000 members.
