New York, NY, May 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Adelphi University is pleased to host, “Teaching the Triangle Fire,” the third annual Education and Labor Collaborative Forum, co-sponsored by Adelphi’s Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, the Education and Labor Collaborative, Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition, and Global Education Motivators. The forum will take place on the second floor of the Adelphi University Manhattan Center, 75 Varick Street, New York, NY. The two-day forum is scheduled for Saturday, July 17, and Sunday, July 18, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

The forum will benefit educators and individuals who wish to learn more about the Triangle Factory fire.

Participants are encouraged to take part in hands-on workshops, attend historical walking tours of Lower Manhattan, and learn from expert scholars in the field. Educators may earn one continuing education credit and/or 15 hours of professional development credits. Housing will be available at Adelphi’s Garden City campus.

The Triangle Factory fire of 1911 was the largest workplace disaster in the United States before September 11, 2001. The senseless deaths of young workers in this tragedy sparked social protests that led to stronger labor legislation, more humane workplace regulations, and New Deal reform. As the 100-year anniversary of the fire approaches, efforts to commemorate that moment in history and those that followed are being undertaken across the nation. Last November, Adelphi held its first commemorative event. Future plans also include an art exhibit and performing arts piece.

For more information and registration materials, please contact Associate Professor Robert Linné, at linne@adelphi.edu. A program fee of $100 applies to those who wish to receive professional development credit from the forum. Housing is available for $50 per person.
