Checkerboard, Leading Fine Stationery Manufacturer, Received Eighth Louie Award
Gerber Daisy Star Design Named Top Product in Personalized Invitation/Announcement Above $5 Category
West Boylston, MA, May 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Checkerboard Ltd. announced today that it received its eighth Louie Award, the greeting card industry’s equivalent of the Academy Awards. The company had three products named as finalists, and took home the top honors in the Personalized Invitation/Announcement Above $5 category with its Gerber Daisy Bar/Bat Mitzvah design.
The Gerber Daisy invitation appears as a traditional 5x5 card at first glance, but then by lifting the hand-applied green ribbon it opens up to four-times its original size to reveal a large olive green and cream star design that contains the event details. The front of these exquisite, cream star-folded invitations features delicate gerber daisies in soft pink and sunflower yellow that form the Star of David.
“We are honored to receive our eighth Louie Award and to be recognized amongst our peers for our creativity and craftsmanship,” said Micah Chase, president and CEO of Checkerboard. “We pride ourselves on our high quality, hand-crafted products as well as our unsurpassed customer service, but at the end of the day, we only get to show off our quality and service if our designs are truly fantastic and attract the customer. To be awarded for having the best item in a very competitive category is really a great recognition.”
The 22nd Annual International Greeting Card Awards competition, better known as the "Louies,” is an annual competition that selects the best greeting card and stationery products sold in the U.S. The theme of this year’s awards program was “Go For The Gold” in recognition of the behind-the-scenes creative talents of the industry’s designers, writers and illustrators. The competition drew approximately 900 entries in 56 categories from nearly 150 U.S. and international publishing companies, including those in Canada, England, India and Israel. The awards are named after German lithographer Louis Prang, who is credited with the birth of the U.S. card industry in the 1870’s.
In addition to its eight Louie Awards, Checkerboard has also made Inc. magazine’s 5000 List of Fastest Growing Private Companies in America in 2008 and 2009 and won the Better Business Bureau’s Marketplace Ethics Award in 2006.
