Duct Tape Provides a New Look for Composition Books
www.ducttapejournals.com Introduces Journals Covered in Duct Tape that Provide Both Customized Fashion and Enhanced Functionality.
Sterling, MO, May 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Designer and Founder of www.ducttapejournals.com, Susan Barton has combined the power of three marketplace trends to provide consumers with a product that is at the same time fashionable, functional, and uniquely personal.
The trends are: (1) the growing popularity of duct tape as a fashion accessory; (2) the increasingly popularity of composition books and writing journals as a combined greeting card and reasonably priced gift; and, (3) the ever-increasing demand for hand-crafted products tailor-made to the buyer’s specifications. The product is a customized, duct tape-covered composition book.
“I went to the store to buy a birthday card for my son, and I couldn’t believe what I found. Greeting cards have become so expensive, and none of the greetings really said what I wanted to say to my son. It was in that moment that I realized there needs to be another option. I wanted to give my son something that would be meaningful to him, something he would actually use instead of reading once and throwing in a drawer, something that could even be both card and gift at the same time,” Barton says.
The end result of Susan Barton’s efforts to find another option is a composition book hand-covered with American-made duct tape and customized to the buyer’s specifications.
“I chose composition books because I’ve found that people like to write or have to write... for all different reasons. Some people like to keep diaries, you know, record their thoughts. Some like to keep sports statistics. Some like to write stories. Some need to keep track of business expenses. Some need to make to-do lists. Just about everyone needs something to write on that they can keep track of. So - why not write in something that looks good, that looks fashionable?”
That’s where the duct tape comes in. Barton continues, “Duct tape just has a cool look and feel about it. People carry around wallets made of duct tape. They make clothes out of duct tape. There’s just something about duct tape that draws people to it. And, it’s available in so many colors, which gives us opportunities to express ourselves by choosing the color combinations and designs that give others a little insight into who we are and what we’re about.”
The company’s product line, which began with customized journals in two sizes, standard (9-3/4” x 7-1/2”) and mini (4-1/2” x 3-1/4”), has quickly expanded to include journals with various patterns, like stripes and a cross, as well as seasonal and holiday designs.
“My hope is that there will be a duct tape journal to meet every person’s desire. When people see the journals I carry around, I love to see their excitement, especially when they ask me if I can make one customized to their desire, their personality. That’s why I add new designs, and I’ll keep adding them.”
