New Book Showcases Authors’ Hometown
Siblings tell the history of Galax, VA in more than 200 vintage images.
Mount Pleasant, SC, May 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- New from and siblings, and natives, John Nunn and Judith Nunn Alley comes Galax, the most recent addition to the popular Images of America Series from Arcadia Publishing. The book boasts more than 200 vintage images encompassing all aspects of the first 50 years of Galax.
In 1903, the Grayson Real Estate Company was formed, land was purchased, and the community of Galax became a reality. The advantage of having the Norfolk and Western Railroad passing through town gave the young southern community the opportunity to grow and expand during the 20th century.
John and Judith say they had the very good fortune to grow up in the best of times and the best of towns and would like this book to serve as a thank you to the community that provided them with such a happy and safe childhood.
Highlights of Galax:
- Showcases the community events, buildings, people, and businesses from the beginning of the town
- Features over 200 vintage images of the first 50 years
- Depicts the devastation that fires and floods had on local businesses and discusses the organization of Galax’s first fire department
- Shows off the latest fashions from the early years
Available at area bookstores, independent retailers, and online retailers, or through Arcadia Publishing at www.arcadiapublishing.com or (888)-313-2665.
