"Home of the Jackalope" Brought to Life in Pictorial History

Mount Pleasant, SC, May 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- New from Arcadia Publishing and lifelong friends Linda Graves Fabian and Carol Price Tripp comes Images of America: Douglas. The book boasts more than 200 vintage images depicting the history of the “Home of the Jackalope,” giving readers a unique opportunity to reconnect to the history that shaped their community.

Established in 1887 by the Fremont, Elkhorn, and Missouri Valley Railroad, the town was named by representatives from the railroad's Chicago headquarters after the great orator and Illinois senator Stephen Douglas. To many of the locals--and by official proclamation in 1985--Douglas is considered the "Home of the Jackalope," an animal well known in American folklore as being part antelope and part jackrabbit.

The area is rich in history and Linda and Carol hope that the readers of Douglas will enjoy the memories conjured up by the photographs and value the legacy that others left behind.
