Windsor, CO, June 02, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The ENERGY STAR® New Homes Tour, sponsored by the Northern Colorado (NoCO) ENERGY STAR Homes Program, will run June 12th and 13th, 2010. This weekend event offers Free tours of beautiful, comfortable and energy-efficient new homes in the Severance, Timnath and Windsor areas. The homes will be open between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Twenty-five homes, by seven industry-leading ENERGY STAR builders, will be showcased in the tour. The homes range in price from under $200,000 to over $600,000.

“Each of these ENERGY STAR qualified homes is independently tested and verified by third-party energy raters,” said Timnath Town Manager, Becky Davidson. “These homes provide better comfort, lower energy bills, healthier indoor air and increased durability, and also help reduce air pollution.”

Visitors can tour a “net-zero” designed home in Windsor that creates as much energy as it consumes with features like passive solar design, solar PV, solar hot water and heat pump. There will be special energy testing demonstrations and “behind the walls” tours at the homes in Severance.

“These are opportunities for visitors to see, first-hand, the construction practices that make-or-break home performance, and how they’re addressed through the ENERGY STAR program,” said Severance Town Planner, Amelia Tuttle.

The tours are being conducted with the help of EnergyLogic of Berthoud, an energy rating firm that partners with the ENERGY STAR program in Northern Colorado. Visitors can see the latest energy-efficient products that make an ENERGY STAR home a better built home. There will also be an opportunity to enter a drawing to win a free home energy audit - a $300 value - at the homes in Timnath. Please visit www.nocoenergystarhomes.org for details about this ENERGY STAR event.

“This is an excellent opportunity for people to see the latest in ‘green’ technology for homes. These homes offer homebuyers all the features they want in a new home, plus energy-efficient improvements that deliver greater comfort, better performance, and lower utility bills,” said Town of Windsor Chief Planner, Scott Ballstadt. “ENERGY STAR builder partners are dedicated to constructing high-performance homes that are good for the home buyer and the environment.”

The key features that differentiate ENERGY STAR qualified homes include more effectively installed insulation, high-performance windows, tight construction, tighter ductwork, efficient heating and cooling equipment, efficient appliances and third-party verification.
