Energy Investment Systems to Use Genscape Data to Calculate Carbon Footprints

New York, NY, June 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Energy Investment Systems (EIS), an award-winning New York City-based consulting firm that provides energy services to apartment buildings, today announced that it will use Genscape data to provide its clients with accurate and timely estimates of the carbon emissions associated with their power use.

Genscape will calculate the carbon intensity of power delivered to area homes based on its direct measurement of power flows and supply an hourly average carbon content for the previous month to EIS. The calculated monthly average, available to EIS at the beginning of each month, represents an accurate assessment of the carbon content of power flowing through the grid that serves New York City during the previous month. Most companies assessing carbon intensity use an annual national average, which does not reflect seasonal and regional differences in generation fuel mix. Initial calculations by EIS show a substantial difference in calculated carbon content between using the national average and the more accurate and specific Genscape numbers.

For clients that wish to track the carbon associated with their power use, EIS will report a carbon amount as well as total power consumed based on the clients’ power use.
