India Sourcing Report: Ceramics Offers Quality-Conscious Global Buyers New Selection of Ceramic Décor and Dinnerware

Makers blend intricate, traditional motifs with modern styles to release new lines of craft, tableware and pottery.

New Delhi, India, June 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The non-profit Kearny Alliance (http://www.kearnyalliance.org) has released the India Sourcing Report: Ceramics (http://www.chinasourcingreports.com/csr/india-ceramics) with the support of its partner in development, Global Sources (http://www.globalsources.com) to offer volume global buyers more sourcing opportunities from quality Indian suppliers.

The report features profiles of 14 experienced export manufacturers, plus descriptions, prices and packaging details for over 70 popular export products. These include mugs, cups, dinner sets, flower vases, candle holders, jars and cabinet knobs.

“Many buyers looking for ceramic products are noting that India is an important sourcing hub for ceramics,” said Khiem Vu, manager of the Developing Country Export Assistance Program. “They are turning to India not only because of its competitive prices and craftsmanship, but also distinctive designs and abundant indigenous materials.”

Survey results show makers target EU; highlight product and price trends
“As our report survey shows, all interviewed suppliers anticipated their export sales to increase by at least 10 percent over the next 12 months,” Vu said. “They are optimistic that the demand from key overseas markets such as the EU and the US has returned.”

The survey of Indian manufacturers of ceramics featured in the report shows:
* 64 percent of makers will increase export quotes for the next year;
* Most will raise quotes between 5 and 10 percent
* 50 percent will target the EU market; and,
* 37 percent will focus on more colorful patterns and intricate designs.

Total capacity of the featured suppliers is 1.58 million pieces a month, half of which is targeted for overseas markets. When asked about the most critical challenge facing the sector, nearly 60 percent of the suppliers noted severe price competition.

Key programmatic areas include:
* Livelihood development at the grassroots level: Through the social enterprise Export Service Centre (http://www.ExportServiceCentre.com) in Indonesia and Cambodia, the Kearny Alliance assists small producers who do not have the capacity to export direct to participate in the global economy. It estimates that in 2009 it created more than 3,800 jobs.

* Job creation for small & medium producers: Through the Developing Country Export Assistance Program (http://kearnyalliance.org/sourcingreports), the Kearny Alliance connects smaller exporters in developing Asia with buyers worldwide. Surveys of beneficiaries show that suppliers have received $440,000 in export orders, and they expect more than $5,000,000 to develop in 2010.

* Education & skills development: The Kearny Alliance offers stipend support for students from Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam and mainland China to study in Hong Kong and the US. The dozens of Kearny Alliance Scholars receive internships and on-the-job training in export-related companies and organizations in 10 countries.

* Trade policy research: One major initiative is The Kearny Alliance – Arizona State University forums on China, trade and the world economic order (http://wpcarey.asu.edu/kearnytrade). At this high-level series of interlinked meetings – held in Phoenix and Beijing, culminating in an Online Forum in 2010 – policy makers, business leaders, and academics explore potential solutions to issues and challenges that will be mutually beneficial to China-US trade relations.
