Harrington College of Design Faculty Member Ryan Kapp Garners the 2006 Educator of the Year Award
Chicago, IL, December 01, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Harrington College of Design faculty member, Ryan Kapp, was one of eight faculty members, representing various disciplines across Career Education Corporation (CEC) schools, recently honored with the highest award given by CEC.
Finalists were selected based on an application evaluating four areas: engaging students, quality teaching and learning, monitoring student progress and leadership. Outside experts judged and selected the winners. Previously, only one winner was selected from the finalists, but the award was expanded to honor the very best faculty in each of the eight areas: business, computer design, culinary, design, general education, health, online and technology.
Kapp is the Program Coordinator of the Foundations Department at Harrington, where he teaches introductory level design classes and oversees the development of the first year design curriculum. His paintings have been exhibited around the country and his graphic work frequently appears in a broad range of media. Originally from Columbus, OH, Kapp moved to Chicago in 2000 to attend Northwestern University where he completed his Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting in 2002. He began teaching at Harrington shortly thereafter.
“It was an honor to receive this prestigious award,” stated Kapp. “I believe creating a positive learning experience boils down to making a connection with each individual in the class. I do this by treating the students as designers, rather than students of design, and by offering them honesty and respect they deserve as human beings.”
