GSTV Renews "Sophomores" for a Sophomore Season in High Definition
Atlanta, GA, June 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Following a successful season of eight original episodes and the award for ‘Best Show’ at the GSTV Awards, the college comedy series Sophomores is officially returning for a second season on GSTV and People TV in the winter. The 2010-2011 General Manager of GSTV, David Hulbert, confirms that ten new original episodes of the series will be produced and that production on the second season will commence in August of 2010.
“We’re thrilled to continue the series as a landmark of the change that is occurring in GSTV,” says Hulbert. “We’re very excited to see Sophomores continue to develop in the coming year.”
This season, Sophomores aired its eight episodes every Wednesday and Thursday night at 6:30 and 8:00 PM on both GSTV and People TV since its series premiere on March 17th. The online component of the show, SophomoresTV.com, has streamed each episode weekly and has received over 90, 000 hits in the season’s two-month run. The series has come a long way since its humble beginnings early in the year, as it saw its peak audiences in early May and a growing fan base online.
“The first season was about experimenting with the ‘college life’ template and exploring our limits, and that was only a taste of what we can do with Sophomores. This upcoming season is where we can really pull all the stops, both cinematically and story-wise,” says Sophomores creator, co-producer, and writer Yonas Michael, noting that next season will be filmed with HD cameras and entirely new equipment.
“We’ve left the characters in this week’s finale in a state of limbo, so to speak. But the places we’re taking them next year will be unlike anything we’ve done so far,” Michael comments on the show’s direction for its sophomore year, adding that the new mystery storyline will be both “more inclusive” to all of the characters as well as “treacherous.”
The second season of Sophomores is currently being written and will go into production this fall. The show’s producers are currently seeking new team members for pre- and post-production and will be holding a casting call for new cast members in early August. The majority of the ten episodes will be filmed in the fall and will subsequently air in the winter, though no air dates have been confirmed at this time.
