Camden County Animal Shelter Receives $24,000 Spay/Neuter Grant Funded by GreaterGood's Gifts That Give More Program
Seattle, WA, June 12, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Camden County Animal Shelter in Blackwood, NJ, received a $24,000 grant in June from The Animal Rescue Site’s and GreaterGood Network’s Gifts That Give More™ program to help fund the shelter's “Spay Our Strays” clinics that offer spay/neuter for feral cats and low-cost spay/neuter for cats belonging to any resident of Camden County.
Gifts That Give More™ spay/neuter grants are being distributed through the Petfinder.com Foundation, and all recipients are Petfinder.com member organizations.
“The high cost of spay/neuter services is the most common reason pet owners give for not altering their animals,” says Niki Dawson, Executive Director of the Camden County Animal Shelter. “Consequently, nearly 80% of animals coming into our shelter are intact. The financial burden of altering over 3,000 animals per year is overwhelming. Thanks to Petfinder.com Foundation and The Animal Rescue Site, CCAS will be able to provide spay/neuter services for every animal that leaves the shelter for its forever home.”
The Animal Rescue Site (www.theanimalrescuesite.com) was added to the GreaterGood Network's online activism websites in 2002 to offer many simple ways to help provide food and care to rescued animals living in shelters and sanctuaries.
“Animal welfare groups are often strapped for funds,” says Elizabeth Neuschatz, executive director of the Petfinder.com Foundation. “So we're particularly grateful that The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org has stepped up with grants to assist with spay/neuter programs that could easily be cut back during tough economic times.”
“We know that spay/neuter programs make more pets adoptable, help owners who could not otherwise afford these services keep their pets in good health, and reduce the population of homeless and feral animals. We have long supported the efforts of rescue groups like Camden County Animal Shelter at The Animal Rescue Site," said Tim Kunin, CEO of The Animal Rescue Site. “We wish Ms. Dawson and her organization continuing success with their important efforts on behalf of their community.”
Visitors to The Animal Rescue Site can click the Web site's purple button to make a free donation to the care and feeding of shelter animals (donations are paid for by site sponsors), vote for their favorite group to receive grants through The Animal Rescue Site's $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com, make direct donations to animal welfare through Gifts That Give More™, or shop at The Animal Rescue Site store (all purchases create additional donations for shelters and rescue groups).
