Give a Kid a Kit--Sponsor a Foster Child Fundraiser & Online Vendor Party
Wahwomen.com and ItchinToScrap.com are helping spread the meaning of Christmas by participating in a very special fundraiser to raise sponsorships for scrapbooking kits which will be donated to a foster parent association in NC. They hope to gain enough sponsorships to spread this to foster associations across America. A special online vendor party event will be held on December 9, 2006.
Lexington, NC, December 04, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The holidays are all about giving and WAHWomen.com and ItchinToScrap.com are excited to be participating in a special fundraiser that will provide scrapbooking kits as a gift to foster children in need.
Social Services requires foster children and parents to keep “life books” (scrapbooks) to help deal with the emotional strain often caused by attachment, placement and adoption.
In looking for unique and affordable scrapbooking supplies, Karla Costner, Chairman of the Gaston County Foster Parent Association, came across a scrapbooking kit entitled “177 Things You Should Know About Me” on ItchinToScrap.com. Costner thought this kit would be perfect for the children in her association.
The foster parent association is a non-profit organization and does not have the financial resources to purchase kits for the 200 children currently in their care. Costner contacted the sales representative, Nicole Pereira, regarding fundraising options.
The manufacturer of the scrapbooking kit currently does not offer a fundraising program. Pereira was very touched by Costner’s request and thought it would be a wonderful idea to obtain sponsorships for the 200 children for the foster parent association.
“The holidays are about being with family and such a special time for children. This is the perfect opportunity to help children that may not have or can not be with their families” stated Pereira.
Pereira brought her idea to her team member, Misty Kearns. Kearns, who is the owner of WAHWomen.com--a resource site for women in home businesses, was excited to not only participate but to include WAHWomen.com as a sponsoring site for this fundraiser.
“I was a little hesitant to take on a fundraiser this Christmas, but when Nicole brought this idea to me and I found out this was for a foster association in NC, (Kearns resides in NC) I knew I was meant to be part of this and was excited to jump on board!” stated Kearns.
Pereira and Kearns are both sponsoring several foster children this Christmas by purchasing these special scrapbooking kits for them.
They are challenging others to sponsor a child and asking them to challenge someone else as well. In addition, Pereira and Kearns are donating back 15% of each kit sold towards the purchase of additional kits for the children.
Costner, Chairman of the Gaston County Foster Parent Association states: "Our goal, as foster parents, is to help children. Through these kits, we can work with them to build a sense of belonging, self-esteem, and self-worth. The life books prove to be a valuable tool for the children in young adulthood by helping them connect with their past and set goals for their future. We are excited to be working with WAHWomen.com and ItchinToScrap.com to provide these wonderful tools for our children."
Kearns hopes this sponsorship idea will spread and can be continued throughout the year so scrapbooking kits and supplies can be given to foster children all across America.
“Scrapbooking has become a very popular creative outlet for adults and children alike. It is a wonderful way to preserve your memories, share your creativity with others and it is a lot of fun!” Added Kearns, “We are so happy to be able spread the joy of Christmas and the gift of scrapbooking to help these children.”
You can purchase one of these kits and sponsor a foster child for Christmas for $18.00 including tax and shipping. You can include a letter for the child along with your kit donation. Donations for the purchase of additional scrapbooking supplies are also being accepted.
An online vendor party is being held on December 9, 2006 on WAHWomen.com to raise funds and sponsorships for this fundraiser.
