Derek Lee Announces His Candidacy for Carver County Sheriff
Waconia, MN, June 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Derek Lee, a sergeant with the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, has announced his candidacy for the Office of Sheriff in Carver County. Lee has over 23 years of law enforcement experience as a licensed deputy sheriff. He came to Carver County in 1990 after working as a deputy sheriff in Ramsey County for over three years.
Lee has experience working in every city and township within Carver County at both the patrol and supervisory level. Lee has served Carver County as a supervisor in the Investigative Unit, the Patrol Division, and the Support Services Division. In these assignments, he managed a team of detectives and oversaw evidence collection and storage, crime analysis operations, warrants, civil process, volunteer services, employee training and development, court services, and inmate/prisoner transports.
Prior to becoming a deputy sheriff, Lee gained over 10 years of management experience in the private sector, where he worked in the areas of risk management, asset protection/loss prevention, and private investigations.
Lee’s educational accomplishments include a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and a Bachelors of Science in Management Ethics, both from Crown College, and an Associate in Applied Science from North Hennepin Community College. Lee has also earned Certificates of Achievement in Professional Development from the United States Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), Professional Leadership Development from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and Supervision of Police Personnel from Northwestern University.
Lee has earned the trust and respect of many individuals in the law enforcement community throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Lee’s leadership abilities and management skills he gained during the greater-than-23 years of law enforcement experience will foster inter-departmental cooperation and the sharing of resources/intelligence that greatly improves operational efficiency in today’s limited-budget environments. Lee’s ability to communicate honestly and in a straightforward manner will also ensure an energized, responsive organization that can address the ever-changing needs of citizens and guests of Carver County.
Lee has the education, experience, insight, drive and courage to lead the Carver County Sheriff’s Office in a direction that leads to a higher level of service to the citizens and guests of Carver County. According to Lee, “The citizens of Carver County deserve a fiscally responsible, proactive organization dedicated to quality public safety service. I understand the relationship of the systems at work within the county and how best to utilize those systems to benefit citizens and employees.”
Derek Lee has been married to his wife, Beth, for over 18 years and they have three boys, ages 15, 12, and 10. Lee and his family, who reside in Waconia Township, are members of Parkside Church in Waconia, where Lee has served in a variety of ways, since joining the church 12 years ago. Lee is actively involved in Boy Scout Troop 3327 out of Waconia. Lee is a registered member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, United States Deputy Sheriff’s Association, and Minnesota Crime Prevention Association.
