Special Care Dentistry Association Announces 2010 Award Recipients; Honors Late Dr. Horbelt
Chicago, IL, June 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) has announced the 2010 recipients of its Saul Kamen Award, Harold Berk Award and Dr. Lawrence J. Chasko Distinguished Service Award.
The Saul Kamen Award honors an individual who demonstrates exemplary leadership and contributions to the advancement of oral healthcare for persons with special needs. This annual award is the highest honor bestowed by SCDA in memory of one of its founding fathers. The 2010 Saul Kamen Award recipient is the late Carlton V. Horbelt, DDS, FADPD, FACD, DABSCD, Arlington Developmental Center/Dental Clinic, Arlington, TN.
“Carlton was dedicated to caring for patients with special needs. His hard work, enthusiasm and passion towards those he served represented all that our organization stands for,” said Dr. Kevin T. Hendler, SCDA president. “Carlton’s commitment to SCDA was truly exemplary and his actions as president serve as a model for our future leaders.”
Horbelt was a long-standing member of SCDA where he served as president (2007-2008) and frequent contributor to Special Care in Dentistry, SCDA’s journal. He was a past board member of the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities (ADPD) and past president of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry (ABSCD).
The Harold Berk Award, established in 1992, honors a member of ADPD for exemplary leadership and contributions to the advancement of oral healthcare for persons with disabilities.
The 2010 recipient is Jerome A. Kleponis, DMD, Selinsgrove Center, Selinsgrove, PA. Kleponis is the immediate past president of the ADPD and was selected for this award because of his dedication and tireless efforts on behalf of oral health care for persons with special needs.
The Dr. Lawrence J. Chasko Distinguished Service Award is given to an AAHD member who has noteworthy achievements at a local, regional or national level which support and promote the mission and goals of AAHD. The 2010 Dr. Lawrence J. Chasko Distinguished Service Award recipient is Peter Lockhart, DDS, FDS RCSEd, FDS RCPS, FAAHD, Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. Dr. Lockart was chosen based on his character, dedication to the field and ethical standards, as exemplified by Dr. Chasko.
