WoundSeal - the Product That Stops Bleeding Instantly - Now Available in Canada
WoundSeal is a topical powder by Biolife that stops bleeding instantly. It has been licensed by Health Canada to introduce it to occupational health customers. Biolife has secured agreements with leading suppliers Zee Medical and SafeCross to serve Canadian market.
Sarasota, FL, June 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Biolife, a manufacturer of patented medical devices for bleeding control and wound management, announced today that it has been licensed by Health Canada to introduce its WoundSeal product to occupational health customers.
“Workplace cuts and lacerations can occur anytime, anywhere,” states Sam Shake, president of Biolife. “From the metropolitan cities in Ontario to the remote logging fields in British Columbia, Canadian workers who suffer a cut on the job will now have access to a product to stop the bleeding instantly.”
WoundSeal is a topical powder comprised of a hydrophilic polymer and potassium ferrate. When the powder is poured onto a bleeding wound and light pressure is applied, bleeding stops in seconds as it meshes with the blood to form an instant scab.
States G. Duncan Finlay, M.D., chief medical officer, Biolife, “The scab, or external seal, forms independently of the blood clotting cascade, which is important for people on blood thinners. In addition to providing protection, the seal also creates a microbial barrier over and around the wound surface to help prevent infection.”
The technology is currently used by a wide range of medical professionals – including professional hockey team trainers, emergency room doctors and office-based physicians.
“If you’ve seen a nosebleed or head wound in professional sports, you’ve likely seen the powder in action to get athletes back into the game fast,” states Shake.
In Canada, the technology will be available in three forms:
· WoundSeal Pour Pack – Single use application for cuts and lacerations
· WoundSeal + Applicator – Powder comes with a special applicator for hard to reach wounds, including nosebleeds
· WoundSeal Rapid Response – More powder in easy pour bottles for larger or multiple wounds
To support the product’s launch on July 1st, Biolife has secured two leading suppliers of first aid and safety products: Zee Medical Canada, the largest van-based supplier of first-aid products; and SafeCross First Aid Ltd., a leading wholesale supplier of first aid products with distribution partners across Canada.
States Shake, “Through the efforts of our suppliers and their relationships with Canadian businesses, for the first time, employers can have the confidence that if a worker suffers a cut – even in a remote area where a medical facility may be far away – the wound can be properly addressed with a product that is simple to open, pour and apply to stop a bleeding wound.”
