IOS Health Systems to Provide Miami Dade College (MDC) Students Free Access to Medios EHR – Web-based Electronic Health Records System
The Institute for Health Informatics at the Medical Center Campus of Miami Dade College (MDC) has partnered with Miami-based IOS Health Systems to provide Medical Center Campus students free access to its Medios EHR electronic health records system.
Miami, FL, June 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Mark Nestor, Medical Center Campus chief information officer, said the partnership with IOS will benefit current nursing and health sciences students, as well as provide new opportunities for working professionals. “There are going to be many new jobs created as a result of the national push to implement electronic health records,” said Nestor. “We plan to be south Florida’s top producer of qualified EHR-trained health professionals, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with a Miami-based EHR company to achieve this goal.”
Nestor added that electronic health records skills are quickly becoming essential for graduates seeking employment in the healthcare industry. “The days of paper-based health records are coming to a close,” he said. “Hospitals, doctors’ offices, and just about every other type of health care facility will soon be using EHRs to improve patient care, safety, and reduce healthcare costs. We feel it’s very important for all of our students to have a solid understanding of these systems, and we’re very excited to be working with Medios to allow them to have hands-on experience with a comprehensive EHR.”
According to Andrew Carricarte, President of IOS Health Systems, the company’s solution is the easiest to use and implement. “Medios offers a revolutionary approach that breaks away from the outdated, complicated and traditional EHR model. Medios is 100 percent Web based, offering a fully integrated EHR/PM platform, secure and immediate access to your patient data from your home, hospital, or office. It connects physicians with labs, hospitals, medical devices, all major insurers; and 95 percent of the country’s pharmacies. Most importantly, Medios is backed by a strong service model that supports the practice before, during, and after the transition to electronic health records,” said Carricarte.
The Institute for Health Informatics is currently planning an EHR Specialist certificate program for healthcare professionals, and plans to hold its second annual EHR Symposium/Job Fair in November.
