PreschoolRock.com Supports National Handwashing Awareness Week
PreschoolRock.com has partnered with Henry the Hand Foundation to bring awareness to the importance of National Handwashing Awareness Week.
San Francisco, CA, December 06, 2006 --(PR.com)-- With over 22 million days of school absences and 4 billion days of work sick days used each year in the U.S., PreschoolRock.com is asking to parents to take the time to educate themselves and their children about proper handwashing and good respiratory etiquette to control the spread of germs and reduce the spread of illness to others.
National Handwashing Awareness Week, celebrated December 3 – 9, brings attention to the many, yet simple things people can do to prevent illness. In an effort to promote National Handwashing Awareness Week, PreschoolRock.com has partnered with the Henry the Hand Foundation, founded by William P. Sawyer, MD (a.k.a. “Dr. Will”).
Dr. Will writes, “I developed this program while trying to teach my own children ‘hand awareness’ in order to prevent the spread of disease in our own home. When the children were old enough to pull the charts off the shelves in the office they were shipped off to daycare, the cesspool of germs. Anecdotally [his children] were healthier than others at the daycare and the neighbor children who were exposed to ‘Henry’ seemed to be less sick, as well. I hope all of you can take this program, use it, and enjoy it with your family and community, as much as I have with my children and community.”
Dr. Will’s “hand awareness” program encourages four simple principles: 1) Wash your hands when they are dirty and before eating, 2) Do not cough into your hands, 3) Do not sneeze into your hands, and 4) Do not put your finger into your eyes, nose or mouth.
PreschoolRock.com will participate in National Handwashing Awareness week by providing activities that encourage proper handwashing and good respiratory etiquette. By participating in activities that support National Handwashing Awareness week, families can reduce the spread of germs that cause illness. They can reduce cold and flu pandemics commonly occurring in daycares, schools and work places. Readers can find the activities by visiting PreschoolRock.com.
Stacey Lloyd, Executive Editor of PreschoolRock.com stated, "I still hear parents telling their children to cover their mouths with their hands when they sneeze and cough. What they don’t realize is that this promotes the spread of germs from their children’s hands to all the toys and other surfaces in preschools, daycares and schools. By using Dr. Will’s four simple principles, we can educate our children about proper handwashing and good respiratory etiquette, and reduce the numbers of cold and flu cases that occur each year."
