GreaterGood Gives $49,361 to Institute for Marine Mammal Studies for Gulf Oil Spill Rescue Work
Seattle, WA, June 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The GreaterGood Network and GreaterGood.org announced today that an initial grant of $49,361.00 has been awarded to the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies to assist in their ongoing efforts to rescue and rehabilitate animals injured or impacted by the recent Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
“In no way does this grant lessen BP’s responsibility to pay for clean-up,” stated Tim Kunin, CEO of The GreaterGood Network. “However, we recognize that many rescue groups will need additional help and support as they deal with the long-term consequences of this manmade disaster in the Gulf.”
The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies is a full-service marine mammal research and rehabilitation center located in Gulfport, Mississippi. A participant of the National Stranding Network for more than twenty years and a National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) designee, IMMS has been involved in the care and rehabilitation of sick and injured marine animals found in the Gulf and along the coasts of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama.
“The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies is very lucky to have a partner like the GreaterGood who believes in our mission to understand the marine environment, protect the marine animals that inhabit it, and create greater public awareness,” said Moby Solangi, Ph.D., the president and director of IMMS.
IMMS will use their funding for care, rescue, and rehabilitation of marine animals including veterinary care and fieldwork. Already in June, IMMS has received a record number of sea turtles at their facility.
Funding for this grant came from the GreaterGood Network’s Gift That Give More™ program available on The Animal Rescue Site, The Rainforest Site, and other GreaterGood Network websites.
