Sonitrol Pacific Detections Lead to 12 Arrests in 4 Hours at 3 Different Schools

Tacoma, WA, June 19, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Twelve people were caught engaged in criminal activity at three different Tacoma area schools in less than four hours last night due to detections by Sonitrol Pacific security systems and the response of one operator.

At 7:17 p.m., Sonitrol Pacific Operator Bricia Mejia received an impact-activated alarm from a public grade school and heard loud banging noises through the audio security sensors. She immediately dispatched authorities. Officers found two broken windows and three juveniles. The two kids suspected of breaking the windows were taken into custody.

Around 8:30 p.m., Mejia received an alert from a public junior high school and listened to real-time audio to verify the alarm. She heard people talking and called police. Officers located four juveniles and two adults who got inside the school by breaking a window. All six were taken into custody.

Just before 10:00 p.m., Mejia received an alert from another grade school’s gym doors, quickly followed by several more activations and called police. Police found four high school age kids inside the grade school and took them into custody. According to officers, the four propped open a door earlier in the evening and used that door to get inside when they returned.

In all, Mejia’s actions resulted in a total of 12 apprehensions at three different Tacoma area schools in a span of less than four hours.
