Pro-Staff Says Formosan Termites Swarm Season Starts in Central Florida

Formosan termites begin their annual swarm season in late spring in Central Florida this year.

Orlando, FL, June 19, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Formosan termites begin their annual swarm season in late spring in Central Florida this year. Bob Welch with Pro-Staff Termite and Pest Control was quoted as saying that “the Formosan termite is referred to as the super termite with good reason.” He went on to say that “these super termites have colonies that are huge and can establish carton nests inside structures up to 300 ft. in the air. They are extremely aggressive and able to cause damage 2 to 4 times faster than eastern subterranean termites.” Mr. Welch who spent 7 years in South Florida where the Formosan Termite was first detected in 1980 added that the super termite presents an enormous challenge to the pest control companies and property owners alike. Traditional termite treatments will have to be supplemented with more aggressive tactics that sometimes will include tent fumigation. The first infestation in Central Florida was found in Orlando in 1985. They have since been found as far away as Pensacola and Tampa. According to Mr. Welch Formosan termites cause upward of 300 million dollars in damage every year in New Orleans and our job as pest control operators is to prevent that kind of damage to homes and business in central Florida.
