Economic Development Executive Holli Baumunk Named President & CEO of the Colorado BioScience Association Effective July 12
Denver, CO, June 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Holli Baumunk, Vice President of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation for the past seven years, has been named President & CEO of the Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) July 12. The announcement is made by Rick Jory, CBSA Board Chairperson, who says Baumunk was unanimously recommended to the board for approval by the CBSA Executive Search Committee, a subcommittee of the board formed earlier this year following resignation of John Collar. Denise Brown, CBSA’s Founding Executive Director and recently named board member, has been serving as Interim Executive Director of the trade association during the search process.

She is an accomplished economic development executive, chosen last year as Colorado’s Economic Developer of the Year by the Economic Development Council of Colorado, and well known to many of us in the Colorado Bioscience Industry, having worked closely with the CBSA on numerous initiatives over the years. She brings a plethora of talents to the chief executive position at the CBSA and is highly regarded for her success in building partnerships and relationships that have become the hallmark of her extraordinary career,” Jory says.

Over the past year, the bioscience industry in Colorado has been one of the few sectors in the economy that has shown positive job growth. Baumunk started in economic development in the Pacific Northwest during the late 1980s in what can only be called a challenging time to enter the field, when economic development interests were challenged by broad initiatives to save the Spotted Owl.
A Colorado native, she later moved back to Colorado, working for Colorado Governor Roy Romer as the Front Range Business Development Representative for the Colorado Office of Business Development and later for the South Metro Chamber's Economic Development Group.
Baumunk joined the Jefferson Economic Council in the mid-1990s where she coordinated land-use planning efforts for the C-470 corridor, several economic impact studies crucial to development decisions, and prospect efforts that brought key primary employers to the county. Seven years into this stint, she was tapped for yet another challenge--to help rebuild the region's economic program at the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.
As Vice President at the Metro Denver Network – which eventually was restructured to become the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation – Baumunk led efforts to get national site selectors plugged into Metro Denver again through highly notable Site Selection Conferences.
Actively involved in bioscience business community, Baumunk served as a Business Advisory Council member to develop CBSA’s Strategic Plan; plus she serves as a Board Member, Past Treasurer, and Founding Board Member of Co-Labs. She is Past Chair and Board member of Red Rocks Community College for the past eight years and is a graduate of the City of Lakewood’s Leadership Program.
Baumunk received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Colorado and is certified as an Economic Development Finance Professional by the National Development Council.
