Robin Givens Stars in “Restraining Order” at The Helm of 1st-Time African-American Movie Director Reggie Gaskins
First-time African-American film director Reggie Gaskins has written and released his first feature film, Restraining Order, starring Robin Givens. The suspense thriller was released on DVD nationwide on December 5th, 2006.
Hollywood, CA, December 07, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Winner of the “Best Feature Film” at the Hollywood Black Film Festival, Restraining Order stars Robin Givens as wife Diane McNeil whose confessions of her marital troubles to friend Russell Jenkins (Reggie Gaskins), stirs her husband Dontae’s (Sean Blakemore) jealous anger.
Restraining Order touches on an increasing problem in the United States. Research on stalking from the National Institute of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1997-1998 documented that approximately one million women and 400,000 men are stalked each year in the United States. Of those who obtained restraining orders, 69 percent of the women and 81 percent of the men said their stalker violated the order. In Restraining Order, Diane McNeil is certain she needs a restraining order, but will audiences feel the same?
Restraining Order has been shown to sold-out movie theaters at Film Festivals all across the country, including the Pan-African Film Festival in Los Angeles, Black Harvest Film Festival in Chicago and Roxbury Film Festival in Boston. The movie also stars James Avery of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” fame, Sean Blakemore (Woman Thou Art Loosed, Into the West), N’Bushe Wright (Chappelle’s Show, Blade) and Mari Morrow (National Security, Hairshow).
Reggie Gaskins (Eve, Friday After Next) is best known as a comedic actor. However, for the past ten years he has been writing and directing plays and short films in Hollywood. Restraining Order is his first attempt to translate his off-Broadway theatre success into a feature-length film.
According to one enthusiastic moviegoer who attended one of the film’s screenings, “This is really an excellent movie. Sean Blakemore was outstanding and this is the best acting I've ever seen Robin Givens do. Also, the writer/director who is also in the film did an extraordinary job, something rarely seen in Hollywood. This was really a great movie.” Another viewer added, “This movie definitely broke the mold with refreshing concepts, content, and character. It's nice to not be saturated with sex scenes, foul language, and bling-bling, but rather be taken on an emotional rollercoaster ride full of twists and life lessons. This is a well-written piece with great acting. It’s pretty impressive, especially for your debut movie. Keep up the great work!”
