Snooth Launches THE SPIRIT: A New Cocktail Publication
The world's largest wine site aims to conquer cocktails.
New York, NY, June 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Snooth, the world's largest online wine community, officially announces the launch of THE SPIRIT (thespir.it), a website and thrice-weekly email for cocktail lovers and spirit enthusiasts. Created by the Snooth team, The Spirit will deliver drink recipes, international bar and restaurant profiles, and mixologist tips and stories to cocktail fans around the globe.
"As Snooth has grown over the past few years, we've heard increasing demand from users that we expand to cover cocktails," says Philip James, founder and CEO of Snooth. “We’re excited to be able to respond to that demand. We've built The Spirit to be the go-to spot on the web for serious cocktail lovers and casual enthusiasts alike."
The new site will allow Snooth.com to preserve its focus on wine, while offering readers a whole new realm of cocktail culture discoveries. Overseen by Snooth's editor in chief, Gregory Dal Piaz, The Spirit features profiles, recipes, and advice from Snooth's editorial staff, along with direct contributions from top mixologists and spirits writers.
"The Spirit will do for cocktails what Snooth does for wine," says Dal Piaz. "Our expert editorial has a fun, approachable bent, and celebrates all aspects of cocktail culture – from modern mixology to classic cocktail craft. Like Snooth, it’s welcoming to both the discerning drinker and the total novice.”
Users will receive The Spirit's email publication three times a week; each delivery includes a signature cocktail recipe, and a feature highlighting the drink's history, the technique necessary to create it at home, or a profile of the best spots in the world to order it.
Since its inception in June 2007, Snooth has grown to be the world’s largest wine database and online community, with over 1 million wines and prices from 11,000 merchants and wineries worldwide. The site currently handles over 5 million searches per month and has over 400,000 registered users.
About Snooth
Snooth is the world’s largest wine site, with over 1 million monthly users. Launched in June 2007, Snooth is a free, highly interactive, social database of the world’s wines, offering casual and expert wine drinkers the ability to search, obtain personalized recommendations, interact with fellow wine lovers, and seamlessly buy from a global network of over 11,000 merchants.
Designed to be intuitive and fun, users have the ability to search by their own personal preferences (bold, peppery, fruity, etc), by a specific meal-pairing, price, region or producer. Snooth’s recommendation engine also provides customized selections based on stated preferences and user feedback. The more information a user gives on wines they enjoy, the more personalized and detailed the recommendations become.
Snooth’s massive database of 1 million wines and 2 million reviews powers many third-party wine applications -- reaching a total audience of over 10 million users per month -- and functions as a central repository of wine data. Snooth is also available on-the-go through its mobile or iPhone applications.
Snooth is a multi-award winning site, including the Model of Excellence by InfoCommerce in 2008, and is the recipient of multiple medals from the Wine 2.0 trade organization. Snooth has garnered much press within the tech, wine, and food spaces from publications including Forbes, Oprah, Techcrunch, Mashable, the Guardian, and many others.
Snooth’s team is comprised of experts in data management, user experience, and wine. Snooth’s advisors and investors include past and current management of Blue Fly, Price Grabber, Experian, Quigo, Inertia Beverage Group, and Global Wines and Spirits amongst others.
