Foxboro, MA, July 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Orpheum Theatre Foxboro proudly announces that Wendy Liebman, a nationally-lauded stand-up comedian, will perform for one night only on Saturday, July 17th, 2010, at 7:00 p.m.
A native of Roslyn, Long Island, Liebman kicked off her comedy career in Boston after earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude, from Wellesley University. After taking a class at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education called “How to Be a Stand-Up Comedian,” Liebman began to travel and perform stand-up comedy at clubs across New England.
In 1990, Liebman won the Johnnie Walker Comedy Competition semi-finals in Boston, and competed in the finals in Los Angeles. From there, she was invited to be a guest on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Since then, Liebman has made regular appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman, and has appeared on the Tonight show with Jay Leno. In addition, she was the first comedian to perform on the Rosie O’Donnell show, and has filmed two specials on HBO and Comedy Central. She has also appeared on the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, The Daily Show, Evening at the Improv, The RuPaul Show, and Bob Hope’s Ladies of Laughter, as well as Comic Strip Live, HBO’s Women of the Night, Politically Incorrect, Women Aloud, and more.
Liebman also won “Best Female Stand-up” by the American Comedy Awards in 1997, and is one of the few female comedians to be included in the Women of Humor exhibition in the Smithsonian Museum for Women in Dallas, Texas. In the fall of 2000, Liebman was also part of the Laughter Arts Festival, and performed alongside Bobcat Goldthwait and Robert Schimmel during a five-city comedy tour on the east coast. In addition, Liebman has performed at prestigious comedy festivals such as Montreal’s Just for Laughs and HBO’s Aspen special.
Liebman was also named the comedian spokesperson for Rx Laughter, a research project aimed at finding the actual physical links between humor and healing, laughter and health. In a benefit concert for the cause, Liebman shared the stage with Ray Romano and Kevin James at UCLA’s Royce Hall for 1,800 guests, an event co-sponsored by Comedy Central and Adlink.
