Volunteers Needed: Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida Holding Volunteer Orientation July 21, 2010

Fundraising leaders and bilingual Wish granters are specially needed to attend the volunteer orientation and help to grant the wishes of ailing local children.

Bonita Springs, FL, July 02, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida is in need of volunteers for two target areas of expertise.

Fundraising leaders who have organizational skills and community contacts are needed to help with various fundraising efforts throughout the year. These leaders are asked to bring their time and talents to work closely with Make-A-Wish staff and help the Foundation reach its financial goal by chairing a special events committee. These volunteers would have the ability to plan and execute activities such as recruiting sponsors, selling tickets/tables and soliciting in-kind donations such as auction items, entertainment, catering, etc.

The second group of volunteers needed is that of Wish Granters. These volunteers work directly with children to discover their heartfelt wishes and then help bring their wishes to fruition. Bi-lingual Spanish or Creole speaking Wish Granters are in great demand as many of the children requesting wishes have parents that do not speak English as their first language.

Many local children are looking forward to getting their wishes granted this summer. Two new wishes were identified recently from local children, they are: 9-year-old Jaeleign, who would like to meet Michelle Obama, and 16-year-old Forrest, who would like to travel to Rome, Italy.

“Volunteers are vital to the wish process; they are directly linked to every wish granted. It is through them and our generous donors that we are able to deliver our mission: share the power of a wish® with ailing children,” said Judith Yevick, West Coast Operations Manager for the Southern Florida office.

A volunteer orientation meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at the Bonita Springs office of the Make-A-Wish Foundation located at 3635 Bonita Beach Road, Suite #4. Registration will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the meeting ending at 7:15 p.m. – to learn more about volunteering or to attend this orientation, please call 239-992-9474 or visit www.sfla.wish.org
