Calloway’s Nursery Shares the Joy of Gardening with Several Summer Gardening Contests

This summer Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery hosted several summer gardening contests for gardeners of all skill levels.

Fort Worth, TX, July 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The series of contests began with an internal display contest. Employees at each store location were provided with a floor plan, guidelines, props and products. With a little creativity the 17 nurseries in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and two nurseries in the Houston area were transformed into a vast array of gardens. The four displays at each store included a garden of sunshine and delight that featured sun-tolerant plants, a secret garden of light and shadows that highlighted shade-loving plants, a fragrance in blossom garden that included aromatic plants and a nature in motion garden that showcased plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. The month-long contest culminated with judging sessions by a customer panel. Cornelius Nursery on Voss Road in Houston secured first place, Calloway’s Nursery in Mesquite, Texas earned second place and Calloway’s Nursery in Plano, Texas on Custer Road attained third place status.

Another employee contest tasked employees to design color creations, complementary plants in containers, and displays that had an Independence Day theme. Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery corporate office awarded gift cards in two categories, individual employee and store. Both winners came from the Calloway’s Nursery in north Arlington, Texas.

Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery also hosted a customer gardening contest on the company’s Facebook fan page. Fans of the page submitted a photo that captured the essence of their garden for a chance to win a garden gift card. Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery’s PlantMaster selected one winner each day. The company awarded nearly $100 in gift cards. The fan page can be found by searching for MyTexasGarden on the Facebook website.

“One of our goals as a company is to make gardening fun and easy for all gardeners, including our employees who are also avid gardeners. I am very pleased with the response we’ve received from employees and customers alike.” Kimberly Bird, Vice President of Retail Marketing said.
