54 Students Awarded Scholarships by United Agribusiness League
UAL and UABT has awarded fifty-four students with a combined amount of $75,500 in scholarship monies.
Irvine, CA, July 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Fifty-four students are receiving a combined amount of $75,500.
Since 1989, UAL and its sponsored health plan, United Agricultural Benefit Trust, have awarded over $725,000 in educational funds to 343 students.
In 1997, an honorary scholarship was set up in memory of former UAL Chairman Maurice McMillan. The recipient of this year’s Maurice McMillan Scholarship is Aimee Meidinger of CA Grape & Tree Fruit League in Fresno, California. In the fall, she will be a first year graduate student working towards a Masters degree in International Relations at California Lutheran University
Bill Goodrich, UAL President/CEO, commends all of the scholarship winners, recognizing them as leaders of the future. “We are very excited and pleased to reward the deserving students affiliated with our agribusiness members. This year, we have exceeded the record we set last year and awarded the largest number of scholarships in the history of the program. We are honored to have the opportunity to help these students pursue higher education; these scholarships are one of the greatest benefits that UAL can provide.”
To qualify for a UAL/UABT Scholarship, applicants must be affiliated with a UAL or UABT member company and reside in the United States, Canada or Mexico. Students must attend an accredited college or university.
Scholarship applicants were asked to submit an essay based on the following topic, “How has the economic recession impacted the agricultural industry?”
