Women’s Roundtable To Be Held At George Mason University
Black Women United For Action (BWUFA) and the the George Mason University School of Social Work will present "2005 Women’s’ Roundtable Discussion “Enriching The Lives Of Women” on Saturday, September 10, 2005 from 9:00am to 2:00pm on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Springfield, VA, August 16, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Black Women United For Action (BWUFA) in conjunction with the George Mason University School of Social Work will hold the 2005 Women’s’ Roundtable Discussion “Enriching The Lives Of Women” on Saturday, September 10, 2005 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Rosemary Reed Miller, longtime Washington, DC businesswoman, proprietor of Toast and Strawberries Boutique and author of “THE THREADS OF TIME, THE FABRIC OF HISTORY” will speak during lunch.
Attendees can choose from four roundtable tracks of discussion:
· Financial Empowerment
· Health & Wellness: Are Women At Risk?
· Women As Agents of Change – From the Ivory Coast to the East Coast
· The Black Family: Are We The Problem or Solution?
In addition, there will be a Young Women’s Forum for young women aged 13 to 17 with the sessions “Any Haters In The Place?” and “Hollaback, Girl!”. Discussions will be centered on passages from the book “The Power of People: Four Kinds of People That Can Change Your Life“ by Verna Cornelia Simmons, PhD. Special guests for the youth forum panel discussion will include young, successful female role models such as Kemba Smith, a young woman currently enrolled in law school whose college career was deterred when she was sentenced to 6 years in federal prison for her minor role in a drug ring.
This event is open to the public. Pre-registration fees begin at $5.00. To register, contact the BWUFA office at (703) 922-5757 or by emailing events@bwufa.org. Pre-registration will close on August 29, 2005; onsite registration will be available on the day of the event beginning at 8:30AM. All activities will be held in GMU’s Student Union II on its Fairfax, VA campus. Lunch is included in the registration fee.
