Courageous Escape from Nazis Told in The Playboy Crew 1943-1944, Published by Outskirts Press

Durant, OK, July 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Robert F. Pipes today announced the release of his new memoir, The Playboy Crew 1943-1944, Memoirs of WW II, The Men of B-24 Liberator 41-29399, published by Outskirts Press. A fascinating chronicle of the plane and its tight knit crew, Pipes gives an insider’s view to those WW II experiences that uprooted young American men from their homes and reshaped them from whatever lives they had formerly led.

On what turned out to be the plane’s final mission, the Playboy Crew’s B-24 Liberator underwent heavy fire from the ground and a relentless assault in the air by the Luftwaffe fighter planes. The blistering attack left the B-24 sixty percent plane and forty percent holes, but fortunately nine of the ten crew were able to bail out.

But that’s when the real trouble began.

He spent the next year narrowly evading the German forces occupying Holland by being hidden in secret compartments and haymows in the country. While trying to get himself back into Allied territory with the help of the Dutch Resistance Force, Pipes ended up helping the Dutch Underground disrupt the activities of Hitler's army.

There are also additional chapters written by five other air crew members of the Playboy. All but two of the crew were captured by the Nazis. Their stories tell of the harsh conditions of the P.O.W. camps, the "Death Marches" and the cruelty and tortures inflicted upon them.

The Playboy Crew 1943-44 is a remarkable historical account of this breed of brave men by a man who was there, this distinguished veteran of the Army Air Corps and the 112th U. S. Calvary.

Pipes’ biography is available on-line in paperback through Amazon and Barnes and Noble and at www.outskirtspress.com/buybooks for a maximum trade discount in quantities of ten or more.
