Mermaid Befriends Girl in Starfish, Seashells, Coral and Gems, Published by Outskirts Press

Novato, CA, July 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Accomplished children’s author Barbara Bryan today announced the release of her fourth book, Starfish, Seashells, Coral and Gems, published by Outskirts Press. The story of a mermaid hooked by a fishing line, but then set free by her young captor, Bryan’s newest work shows young readers that love and friendship will always be more important than mere possessions -- no matter how beautiful they may be.

It is summer vacation for Terry, and her parents have left her and her older sister, Sunshine, for two weeks in their house in Plankton Beach. Terry loves to fish, but on her first day fishing from the beach she manages to snag a mermaid’s tail with her hook.

She helps free the mermaid’s tail, and she and Nicolee – a kind and beautiful mermaid with pink and purple hair – become fast friends. To show her appreciation to Terry for setting her free, Nicolee presents her with four pieces of sea jewelry she herself has cleverly crafted for her new friend.

Terry finds that each piece -- earrings, bracelet, necklace and ankle bracelet – becomes stuck and entangled in other things when she wears it. She places them in her bedroom as lasting mementos of her love and friendship with Nicolee after the mermaid finds it’s time for her to return to her own family in the distant sea.

A fairy tale of a different kind of love story, Starfish, Seashells, Coral and Gems, will not only entertain and please children with its clear text and full color illustrations, it also teaches them the value of friendship and of sharing with others.

The book is available on-line in paperback through Amazon and Barnes and Noble and at www.outskirtspress.com/bookstore for a maximum trade discount in quantities of ten or more.
