London Alternative Popsters Rubicks to Release Fevered Second Single ‘Is This Love?’ Taken from Their Forthcoming 2nd Album 'Rise and Fall of the Giddy'

After an abundance of critical praise from their last single ‘Giddy Up’ and other previous releases, Rubicks are set to release a more lyrically personal single entitled ‘Is This Love?’ on the 29 August 2010 via Sharp Attack Records.

London, United Kingdom, July 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- After an abundance of critical praise from their last single ‘Giddy Up’ and other previous releases, Rubicks are set to release their second single entitled ‘Is This Love?’ on the 29 August 2010. The single and subsequent album is produced by Robert Harder (Acoustic Ladyland, Babyshambles, Brian Eno, David Byrne, Soho Dolls, Whitey).

Written about a difficult period in life for singer Vanessa Anne Redd, ‘Is This Love?’ captures the feeling of being in love with someone who is about to die and its impact on the levels and perception of love. Although it tackles a heart-rending subject lyrically, the new single takes an upbeat and epic musical approach with its dramatic builds and breakdowns, relentless keys, colourful strings, pulsing bass and impassioned female vocals throughout making it an infectious alt-pop affair. B-side ‘Dragons’ is slower and more sensitive, featuring the sexy electrified pop that Rubicks have made a name for themselves with. In contrast to the A-side, it's a stark moment of clarity as Rubicks turn their trademark 'cold wave' eye to the subject of greed and the reptilian instincts that feed it.

Following their much-admired 2009 ‘Idiot Time’ EP and 2006 album ‘In Miniature,’ which received 9/10 in NME, Rubicks have been busy touring throughout America, Canada and Europe playing festivals including SXSW, Canadian Music Week and one in a Lithuanian forest, in addition to supporting Gary Numan, White Rose Movement and John Foxx on their recent tours.

Rubicks are Vanessa Anne Redd (vocals/guitar), Marc Makarov (bass), Anthony Johns (drums) and Vee Vimolmal (synths/MPC2000). The band is putting the finishing touches to their upcoming album due out later this year and preparing for UK touring plus slots at The Secret Garden Party festival and The Playground’s event at London’s Koko on the 14 August 2010 which sees the band playing alongside Kavinsky, Kap Bambino, autoKratz & Is Tropical.
