60 Year’s Experience Boosts Mentor-net Support for PIPELine Project
Portsmouth, United Kingdom, July 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Sometimes a word of advice or chat about an issue can be as valuable as a structured course, if it’s coming from someone who’s been there in business – this is the idea behind Mentor-net and its involvement with University of Portsmouth’s PIPELine project to help budding business people.
The summer PIPELine programme, currently in its final stages of its support for budding entrepreneurs who have recently graduated form the University, will hopefully spawn around 4 or 5 new businesses over the coming months. On this occasion three mentors, Geoff Jacobs, MD of a Health and Safety Consultancy, Maggie Currie, an experienced consultant and Stuart Wells, an ex-director of PALL Europe are all working with the graduates to help them prepare for a ‘Dragon’s Den’ type pitch taking place over the coming week.
Mentor-net, provided by Southern Enterprise Alliance (SEA) matches experienced organisational leaders as mentors with business owners across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and is currently looking to expand its network of experienced business leaders, as well as the businesses who may need their low cost advice.
Mentor-net Programme Manager, Rachel Cheetham said, “We need more entrepreneurs in the UK and its sometimes difficult for young people to know where to start. The PIPELine project is an innovative way to encourage recently graduated students to build on the business dreams and give them the support they need to make the ideas a reality. We know that mentoring is one of the most successful ways to support a business and we are delighted to be able to support these individuals.”
Richard Sant, from University of Portsmouth added, “With a top prize of 1000 pounds Sterling plus the experience of the various Mentors, this programme is invaluable to the young people who are participating. Without the support of local organisations such as Mentor-net and the other corporate supporters, this initiative would not be possible.”
Isle of Wight PIPELine Mentor Maggie Currie said, “It has been fantastic to be involved with the PIPELine programme and to use my experience to help graduates and young professionals just starting out in business. The overall winner of the competition will receive a cash boost towards their business idea along with ongoing mentoring with an experienced mentor, so this is a great opportunity for the Portsmouth graduates - the competition is intense.”
