Restaurateur Provides Answer to Drain Warfare

Columbia, MO, July 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Restaurants and other commercial kitchens wage a constant battle against garbage that clogs grease traps or drains. The newly available Drain Strainer keeps that garbage out.

Designed by a former city councilman and long-time restaurant owner in Columbia, Mo., the patented Drain Strainer keeps food waste and debris from going down the drain and often saves commercial kitchens hundreds of dollars a month in plumbing costs.

“It was a terrible problem for my restaurant,” said Brian Ash, long-time owner of Bambino’s Italian Cafe in Columbia, Mo. “It was getting to the point where we were having to get our grease trap cleaned out once a month, which cost us a ton of money every year. The Drain Strainer kept our drains clean for ten years.”

Ash designed the original Drain Strainer after a frustrating bout with repeated clogged drains and later updated his designs with input from other restaurant professionals. After his wife passed away from breast cancer, Brian decided to sell his restaurant, which the couple had started and operated for 15 years, to launch a new career selling The Drain Strainer.

Depending on the configuration of its installation, the device separates food solids and other debris, such as cellophane and plastic straws, from grease traps, drains, and bar sinks. It works better than chemical enzyme products designed to fight buildup in pipes, Ash said, and it is an affordable alternative to unreliable garbage disposals, which are notorious for breakdowns and malfunctions and expensive to repair or replace.

“The Drain Strainer saved us the cost of a new commercial garbage disposal at around $1,300, and we have not had to use any electricity to run the disposal,” said Richard Walls, general manager of Boone Tavern restaurant in Columbia, Mo. “In addition, we have not had to worry about anyone losing a finger getting something out of a garbage disposal. We have had to empty it, but that has prevented lots of things from going down the drain.”

The Drain Strainer comes in three different sizes. The standard model works well for a typical restaurant, the XL model is designed for larger commercial kitchens, and the mini model is designed for bars. For more information, see The Drain Strainer Website, www.TheDrainStrainer.com.
