OpenText Certifies Long-Term Archiving Solution iCAS
With iCAS, users of OpenText's ECM solutions benefit from reliable compliance and maximum flexibility with regard to their storage infrastructure.
Freiburg, Germany, July 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The archiving solution iCAS from iTernity GmbH, headquartered in Freiburg, Germany, has been certified by the ECM manufacturer OpenText for its OpenText archive and storage services solutions. Users of OpenText's ECM solutions thus now also benefit from the advantages of audit-proof long-term archiving, with iCAS as the archive infrastructure. iTernity's manufacturer and platform-independent middleware allows for reliable conformity with the compliance requirements of, for example, the US Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX), EUROSOX or Basel II. Data can be encrypted, compressed, and stored securely on the archive medium. iCAS uses patented Content Storage Containers that contain all document data and metadata. With 512-bit hash values, the archived documents are protected against any manipulation attempts. The relevant retention period is transferred to iCAS from the ECM system on a document-related basis and prevents the data from being deleted before the end of this period.
The new certification means that OpenText users now have complete freedom when it comes to the archive store used: thanks to the openness of iCAS, existing storage systems can be used. Systems from different manufacturers can therefore also be integrated into the archive concept, enabling users to benefit from permanently low operating costs. In terms of the total cost of ownership (TCO), iCAS offers a significant price advantage of around 30 percent compared with other archiving solutions available on the market. This cost saving is primarily due to the manufacturer's transparent pricing policy: while for proprietary competitor products software licenses are linked to the hardware used, with iCAS, you don't need to acquire a new license if you want to upgrade your hardware. iCAS also supports simple and fast data migration at file system level, for which data integrity can be guaranteed with minimum outlay. As a result, the very latest in storage technologies can always be used. One-off investments are therefore also protected in the face of future storage trends.
iCAS is delivered as a completely pre-installed appliance and can be integrated effortlessly into the existing infrastructure. Administrators therefore do not require any additional special knowledge or any costly or time-consuming training. In addition to ECM systems like that from OpenText, all applications, such as ERP and e-mail systems, access the highly-available middleware via a web service interface or the file system interface and store data there.
"iCAS can also be used in virtualized environments. In this case, the solution can be operated not just on virtual servers, but also in combination with a SAN virtualization," says Ralf Steinemann, Business Development Manager at iTernity, quoting an additional advantage of the certified middleware.
