Lansing, MI, July 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Delphi, source for art glass supplies, and ArtFire.com, marketplace for handmade crafts, announced winners of the first Ring of Fire Artist Challenge™. This unique contest challenged artists of all crafts and abilities to showcase their creativity in new ways. Winning projects can be seen at www.DelphiGlass.com/RingOfFire.
The Ring of Fire Artist Challenge was a new style of art competition. The challenge was to choose from 10 specified craft supplies and incorporate the item(s) into a project of the artists’ choosing. The variety of awards, including Best Use of Recycled Materials, Best Use of Ring of Fire Materials, Most Inspirational, Hottest Project for the Summer and others, encouraged a wide range of mixed media entries.
There were 15 award categories in total. The Grand Prize went to Kristin Simpson for her fused glass flower titled “Garden Whimsy,” which incorporated dichroic scrap, millefiori, copper mesh and art glass for a three-dimensional project. She was awarded multiple prizes, including a Delphi EZ-Pro Deluxe Kiln by Jen-Ken Kilns, which fires both glass and ceramics.
Thousands of dollars in goods were presented to the winners, including $50 Delphi gift certificates and mixed-media supply packs, $100 shopping sprees on ArtFire.com, instructional books, DVDs and other prizes from the contest’s many sponsors.
This was the first art competition Delphi and ArtFire.com partnered to organize. Major sponsors included Jen-Ken Kilns, Glass Patterns Quarterly, Glass Craftsman, Wardell Publications and Diamond Tech Crafts.
“The Ring of Fire encouraged people of all crafts and abilities to enter,” said marketing director Monika Smolarczyk, “We were impressed with the creativity involved in the numerous entries we received. We are working on future contests and projects in celebration of the handmade arts.”
