Williamsburg Wine & Food Festival Raises $5,000 for Colonial Heritage Community Foundation

Williamsburg, VA, July 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The First Annual Williamsburg Wine And Food Festival at Colonial Heritage proved to be a successful and memorable culinary extravaganza. More than 4,000 guests attended the two-day event and over $5,000 was raised for the Colonial Heritage Community Foundation.

“Our inaugural Festival was a tremendous success,” said Robert Krieff, president of Lennar’s Virginia Division and developer of Colonial Heritage. “We had incredible entertainment, a wonderful variety of wineries, great attendance and most importantly, money raised for the Colonial Heritage Community Foundation.”

Established by Colonial Heritage resident, Joan Bender, the Colonial Heritage Community Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports family caregivers, promotes active aging and strengthens the community through the enrichment of quality of life for all residents of Colonial Heritage and the greater Williamsburg area.

“We appreciate the financial support of our corporate partners Lennar and Colonial Heritage,” said Joan Bender, president of the Colonial Heritage Community Foundation. “The generous contribution we received will help the Foundation move forward and continue to provide those important services to caregivers in need.”

Upon receiving its 501(c) 3 nonprofit status, Colonial Heritage Community Foundation (CHCF) began expanding its efforts to offer local caregivers the life resources they can rely on to sustain themselves while they are busy meeting the needs of those under their care.

Joan Bender, the Founder and President of CHCF, recognized soon after she and her husband moved to their new home in Colonial Heritage, a Lennar community in Williamsburg, that there were a large number of families who were handling varying levels of care giver responsibilities.

In collaboration with Mary L. Brett Wright, a psychologist and trained facilitator, Bender first established the community’s Caregivers Support Group, to provide educational programming, networking opportunities between other caregivers, health providers, and social agencies; responsive communication, and respectful confidentiality in a trusting environment.

Now, through various fundraising efforts, grants, and support from such corporate partners as, Lennar, the Foundation is dedicated to accomplishing a host of ambitious goals, including the development, design, and construction of a local licensed adult day center with a cost-affordable Alzheimer’s program in James City County.
